Today's tip comes from a friend who wanted to know what to do when you have protective styles and how to take care of your scalp.

I love protective styles however; whether you chose braids, twist, weave or wigs- your scalp still needs your attention.

Here are few quick tips to keep your scalp happy while you are wearing your protective style.

1. Spritz with water daily! Water is your best friend when you are wearing a protective style. Especially if you have braids-and your scalp is exposed. Spritz your scalp lightly with a little water to relieve any itching that you may have, and follow the steps in step 2.

2. Bare Your Hair Peppermint and Lavender Oil- is great for itchy scalp. After spritzing with a little water, massage oil into your scalp nightly or whenever you feel that your scalp is especially itchy and dry. Massage your whole scalp until your finger tips become tingly. Doing this daily, whether you have a protective style in or not is going to give you amazing results in hair growth.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar -removes product build up and helps to clean the scalp. This comes in handy if you’re wearing braids for a month or more- and want to wash them. If you`ve had your protective style in for a while, and are noticing some build, maybe its time to give your hair a wash. If washing is not your thing just yet, you can also clarify your hair with apple cider vinegar and it works just as well. Take a spray bottle and add equal parts apple cider vinegar to water, and spray it onto your scalp. Rub mixture into scalp to get rid of build up.

5. Stay Loose- I think this is the most important one of all. I know with our hairstyles we like for them to be nice and tight. Remember this is ADDED TENSION TO YOUR HAIR AND YOUR SCALP- which automatically makes it itchy and irritated.  So consider loosening up your braids or extensions and give your scalp a break as well- REMEMBER YOUR EDGES CAN BE EXTREMELY FRAGILE!
