These cold dry months can really do a number on our natural (or permed) hair if we are not careful with and provide that much needed extra protection.
Naturally, we want to wear a cute hat to keep us warm. However, we have to be careful with our lovely hats- the linings of them can be rough on our hair.
Wool winter hats can cause breakage from the friction of putting the hat on and off. This includes your turtlenecks, scarfs and coats. (You may have noticed some thinning around the nape of your neck). Cotton also absorbs the moisture from your hair… which eventually leads to breakage
1. Look for hats with satin or silk linings.
2. Grab your favorite scarf or head wrap and put it on before your rock your hat
3. Satin bonnets that you sleep in- keep it on! No one is going under that hat unless you let them
# 3 is my favorite- I do this a lot when I have in twist or when my hair is straight. I keep my bonnet on and then add a hat. When I get to work-, I shut the office door- and get to work unwrapping my twist, or letting my hair down.
Now if you are planning on wearing your hair out for the day- this can be difficult because you know we have to have a million products on hand- “just in case” we have to re-do everything!
Hope this helps guys!
